TV Promissory Notes trial with Kočner starts

On Monday, a senate of the Specialised Criminal Court initiated proceedings in the case of the so-called television promissory notes and obstruction of justice against controversial entrepreneur Marián Kočner and former general director of television channel Markíza Pavol Rusko. The proceedings are scheduled to last six days and in the absence of Kočner who is being prosecuted in custody over the promissory notes worth almost €70 million on which he based a claim against Markiza. The private broadcaster has been challenging the authenticity of the notes since the beginning, filing criminal complaints against both accused.

Furthermore, Marian Kočner has been charged with ordering the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak. Pavol Rusko is being prosecuted at large in this case as well as in the case of ordering the murder of his former business associate Silvia Volzová.
