The largest party of the governing coalition Smer-SD will not present its own abortion bill, their leader Robert Fico announced on Wednesday. "It can't be ruled out that representatives of other parties will appear with their bills, however. Then we have a principle that Smer-SD MPs have freedom in voting on ethical issues," wrote Fico on Facebook, stating that he personally is against restricting the "freedom of choice for women". Changes in the abortion law, which were discussed by the junior coalition member Slovak National Party are being put on hold, according to party leader Andrej Danko. "The topic is not a burning issue and requires a thorough and professional discussion," he said on Thursday.
