State orders banned methods of hunting

Due to the African swine virus detected in private breeding as well as in wild boars, the Chief Veterinary Officer issues an order to all users of hunting grounds on the territory of the Slovak Republic to intensify the hunt of wild boars. Following the official order, it is possible to use forbidden means of hunting such as the use of night vision or sources of artificial light. Hunting is even possible also at a distance of less than 100 metres from the hunting ground boundaries. Moreover, shooting wild boars is possible even on fields on which farming work is carried, albeit only with the agreement of the farmers concerned. Five cases of African swine fever on private pig farms have been recorded in Slovakia in recent weeks, all of them in the southeast of the country. In addition, the disease was also diagnosed in one wild boar in the same area earlier this week. The measure was taken in order to eradicate the African swine virus in the wild boar population.
