Birds start annual migration back to Africa

Migratory birds have already began their flyaway to Africa. Out of almost 220 bird species that regularly nest in Slovakia, more than 150 fly away in the winter months. They do so despite the current high temperatures in Central Europe. "The bird migration phenomenon ignores the weather and current temperatures. The migratory instinct is clear - after raising their offspring, the birds embark on a long pilgrimage," explained Martina Brinzíková Badidová of The Raptor Protection of Slovakia Association. Currently leaving are the birds that spend their winters in sub-Saharan Africa. They shall return to Slovakia in the second half of April and May, some species in June.
