Information published in the media concerning the alleged communications between controversial businessman Marián Kočner and former Justice Ministry state secretary Monika Jankovská is extremely serious, President Zuzana Čaputová stated on Tuesday. She added that a crime may have been committed in this case, and so it's important that law-enforcement bodies act as soon as possible. The president welcomed the fact that Justice Minister Gabor Gal (Most-Hid) has filed a motion for disciplinary action both against judges Monika Jankovská and Zuzana Maruniaková. Given the current situation, suspending them from their role as judges is a real possibility, she stated. Justice Minister Gal said that he's filing the motion for disciplinary action due to the fact that Jankovská lied and Maruniaková issued a contested ruling in the matter involving TV Markiza and Marián Kočner. A transcript of communications published by the daily Dennik N indicates that Jankovská and Kočner acted together in an attempt to influence judges who were making decisions in the TV Markíza promissory notes case, while it was still considered to be a civil dispute. The civil proceedings were halted when both Kočner and former Markíza general director Pavol Rusko were charged with forging the promissory notes and obstructing justice. Jankovská has denied that the communications are authentic.
