The EU foreign affairs ministers called on Turkey to halt its military operations in north-eastern Syria and at the same time committed themselves to adopting strong national stances on the export of weapons to Turkey. "The EU demonstrated great unity and decisiveness when it comes to the protection of international law and the principles in which it believes," stated Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčak (a Smer-SD nominee), adding that the EU is aware of the fact that Turkey is an important partner and appreciates what the country does in the fight against illegal migration. However this doesn't mean that violation of international law can be tolerated.
