On Monday, the Slovak Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko announced that the general election in Slovakia would be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Danko noted that the election campaign would officially start as of Tuesday November 5. "I'd like to ask political parties and their leaders to engage in a fair fight," said Danko, calling on the public to vote "responsibly" and see that their votes were not wasted. This will be the eighth general election in Slovakia since it gained independence in 1993.
