Deputy speaker of parliament steps down

08. 11. 2019 13:53

Martin Glváč (SMER-SD) on Thursday announced his resignation from the post of deputy speaker of parliament. According to his own words, he is resigning because he cares about how the Smer-SD party will fare in next year's parliamentary race. Since late October, the parliamentary opposition has been trying to oust Glváč, over his chats and connections with Marián Kočner, a controversial businessman who faces charges of ordering the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak. Now they welcome his decision. Martin Glváč is also ready to relinquish his membership of the House Committee for Supervising Military Intelligence. At the same time, he called on other politicians who had connections to Marián Kočner to step down from their parliamentary posts. As for now, it is not clear whether Glváč plans to run for SMER-SD in the 2020 elections.
