World leaders will be discussing global measures related to the issue of climate change at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 25) in Madrid starting on Monday. Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini is leading the Slovak delegation at the conference. Last year's edition of the annual conference aimed at enforcing UN climate conventions was last held in Katowice, Poland. It was attended by over 20,000 participants, including many presidents and prime ministers. The first UN climate change conference was held in Berlin in 1995. This year, COP 25 was supposed to take place in Brazil, however, the country's president Jair Bolsonaro stopped the organization of the event, claiming that Brazil was facing a budget restriction. Later the conference should have been held in Chile, where civil unrest broke out and therefore the event was moved to Madrid.
