Slovakia's OSCE presidency evaluated

Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák (a Smer-SD nominee) on Tuesday presented his evaluation of Slovakia's year-long presidency of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which comes to a close at the end of this month. Lajčák based his evaluation on the three priorities Slovakia was pursuing - conflict prevention and mitigation, a safe future, and effective multilateralism. In terms of conflict prevention and mitigation, the focus was mainly on Ukraine, Slovakia's priority in this context, where eight key measures were introduced during the year. In terms of a safe future, the priority was not only troops stationed at the borders but also threats coming from cyberspace. In terms of effective multilateralism, he commented mainly on the co-operation of international organisations, strategic partnerships, and the fulfilling of commitments. At the organisation's 26th Ministerial Council meeting, to be held this Thursday and Friday (5-6 December) in Bratislava, 57 participating and 11 partner OSCE states will assess the organisation's performance over the past year.
