Slovakia appreciates USA's initiative in Middle East

Slovakia appreciates the USA's initiative to rescue the peace process in the Middle East and efforts to find a permanent resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak stated on Thursday regarding US President Donald Trump's recent Israel-Palestine peace plan. "We've long been supporting a so-called two-state solution, which is based on the resolutions of the UN Security Council. The renewal of meaningful talks taking into account the eligible interests of both sides is the only way to achieve lasting peace," stated Lajcak, adding that the plan is currently subject to a detailed analysis and that Slovakia would continue to coordinate with its EU partners as well as all other countries regarding this matter. The Foreign Ministry also announced that one of the priorities of the Slovak Republic in the year 2020 will be participating in the UN Counter-Terrorism week at the end of June.

Trump on Tuesday presented the key points of his Israel-Palestine peace plan, the so-called deal of the century. The 80-page document proposes that "Jerusalem will remain the sovereign capital of the State of Israel" and undivided, although it also speaks about an eventual Palestinian state with a section of East Jerusalem as its capital.
