Parliamentary session finally unblocked

The parliamentary session, the opening of which was on hold for two days and nights, was unusually opened on Thursday morning by Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD). However, the independent MPs around Miroslav Beblavý (Progressive Slovakia/Together), who had been blocking the speaker's desk until then, did not allow Pellegrini to speak at the main desk. He had to use one of the two side desks that had been brought into the assembly hall on Thursday morning. Only after Pellegrini made his statements did they stop blocking the parliamentary proceedings and leave the main desk.

We also discuss the unusual opening of the parliamentary session in our Topical Issue.
