This year, winter has struck Slovakia perhaps earlier than many had expected. In the past few weeks, 7 homeless people died in Bratislava due to the hardships connected to the cold weather. How is the Slovak capital prepared to help people in the greatest need this winter? Zuzana Botiková spoke to the representatives of the city as well as to the enthusiasts grouped within the civic association Vagus.
The shortage of housing is also an important topic for the sociologists. Even though in Slovakia you can see the massive concrete blocks of housing estates on the outskirts of Slovak towns, this sight does not mean a vast array of housing opportunities. Dr. Zuzana Kusá from the Institute for Sociology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences explains this phenomenon.
