New books, new friends as well as new assignments. Thousands of Slovak kids and their parents started turning their alarm clocks back from a leisurely holiday schedule to early mornings, as this week the school year kicked off. The beginning of the school year brings many challenges not only for the children returning to classrooms, but also for teachers and in fact for the whole education system in Slovakia. The ministry plans to kick off the national education program, which was greenlighted by the government already in June. However, schools face problems of missing text-books as well as missing teachers. At the moment, there are more than 600 teachers missing in the system.
