Few days ago, the 1980s popular Slovak band Elán featured a new music clip, where the lead singer points a gun at tied up tabloid journalists. Despite they claimed if was a joke, the Slovak society, still shaken by the last years murder of a journalist strongly condemned it. In the World Press Freedom Index put together by the Reporters without Borders organisation, Slovakia fell in terms of its media environment from 27th spot in 2018, to 35th place in 2019. About the role of journalists in the wider Central European region, Zuzana Botiková spoke to Nick Thorpe, the Central Europe Correspondent for BBC News.
