Slovak National Party revokes the Coalition agreement

On Monday the Slovak National Party revoked the Coalition agreement, as the parliamentary communication department director Zuzana Čižmáriková confirmed to the SITA news agency. Based on SITA's information, the conflict within the ruling coalition of SMER-SD, Slovak National Party and Slovak-Hungarian party Most-Híd appeared in connection to the situation at the Ministry of Education. The Slovak National Party states the necessity to redefine the rules within the coalition as the reason for revoking the Coalition agreement, as well as the setting of new priorities for the budgeting process, in order to restore confidence among coalition partners, as well as public confidence in the ruling coalition. The Slovak National Party's deputy chairman Jaroslav Paška told the SME daily, that the party does not exclude the possibility of early elections if they do not agree on the new conditions of co-operation within the coalition. Most-Híd chairman Béla Bugár in his first reaction told the TASR news agency that he doesn't know what lead the Slovak National Party to this move, but the termination of the coalition agreement must be resolved at a meeting of the Coalition council, with a meeting date for the council being unknown at present. The Coalition agreement was signed on September 1, 2016.
