Slovakia over EU average in number of young entrepreneurs

Slovakia has a higher number of young entrepreneurs and lower number of old entrepreneurs compared to other EU countries, indicates an analysis by the Slovak Business Agency, reported the TASR press agency last weekend. It is using data from 2016 provided by the Slovak Statistical Office and Eurostat. There were almost 14% of entrepreneurs under the age of 30 in Slovakia. In this category, Luxemburg was the only EU state which scored higher. More than 27% of Slovak entrepreneurs are aged between 30 and 40, whereas the EU average is only a little over 20%. Slovakia outscored the EU average also in terms of the percentage of businessmen and businesswomen aged 40 to 50.

However, Slovakia has the lowest number of entrepreneurs over 50 in the EU - less than a quarter of the entire number. When it comes to entrepreneurs over 60, Slovakia also ended in the last place out of all the countries of the Union.

In spite of this situation, there is a long-term trend of a growing number of old entrepreneurs in Slovakia. Eurostat's data illustrate this phenomenon. The index of ageing of entrepreneurs in the country indicates that in 2006 there were almost seven times more entrepreneurs under 30 than those over 60. In 2016, it was only twice as much.
