Slovakia sees no room for opening Brexit deal

Slovakia does not see any room for opening a Brexit deal with Great Britain. As the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Boris Gandel said on Wednesday for the SITA press agency, we can offer an ex-post explanation of all aspects of the Brexit deal as the scenario of London leaving with no agreement might become true, moreover it is highly probable following the delayed vote in the British parliament. According to Gandel, Slovakia has been considering the UK leaving the EU with no deal as one of the options and has been preparing for it. Following the latest developments, these preparations would intensify. "We tried to respect all the demands of the British side including no border controls. The current version might seem to be complicated but under the given conditions it is the best possible solution," stated the Slovak Foreign Ministry which is thus following its EU partners. Despite the fact that the Ministry is so far not familiar with British plans and intentions, it sees room for further negotiation as being narrow.

British Prime Minister Theresa May postponed the vote on the Brexit deal in the British Parliament and on Wednesday she has been facing the no-confidence vote in her Conservative Party. The UK leaves the EU as of 29th March 2019 regardless of whether the deal is passed by both the British as well as the European Parliament.
