During his interrogation by the National Crime Agency in Nitra on Thursday, Miroslav M. confessed that he shot at the journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova in Velka Maca, western Slovakia, public broadcaster RTVS has reported. According to the original accusation, the former soldier Miroslav M. only served as a driver in the murder. Tomas Sz. was originally thought to be the gunman. Following the interrogation in Nitra, investigators took Marian M. to Sladkovicovo and Velka Maca where they carried out acts related to the investigation with him, reported RTVS.
"With regards to the ongoing investigation, we will comment neither on the course of the investigation, nor on individual steps at this stage to avoid marring or complicating the investigation," spokesperson of the Special Prosecutor's Office Jana Tokolyova told TASR press agency.
Miroslav M., who was charged with participating in the murders of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kusnirova, was interrogated for six hours on Thursday. According to the independent Dennik N daily, investigators are also taking into consideration the fact that Miroslav M. and Tomas Sz. are cousins and can have agreed on perturbing the judgment so to make the court unclear about the gunman. In this case, the murderer might be sentenced to a lesser punishment. If Miroslav M. is the real culprit, the police might have two culprits co-operating. The first one is Zoltán A., the alleged manager of the crime.
Jan Kuciak was an investigative journalist who worked for the news website Aktuality.sk. He and his fiancée were murdered in their house in Velka Maca, western Slovakia, on February 21, 2018. Five persons have been charged in this case by now - Alena Zs., Tomas Sz., Miroslav M., Zoltan A. and Marian K. All of them are being prosecuted in custody.
