The Danube in Bratislava is suitable for swimming

Water in the Danube River area near Pečnianský forest in Bratislava is suitable for swimming, according to the civic association "Za našu vodu" (For our water). It compared the quality of water in the Danube by analyzing the upper stream section in Bratislava and the lower one in Komárno, trying to find out whether the water in the Danube is suitable for swimming. "The good and surprising news is that the water in the Danube near Pečnianský Forest is suitable for swimming. In this section of the Danube, the level of heavy metals, petroleum substances and chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are often present in polluted rivers, were not exceeded," the association said.

Closer to Komárno, they found an increase in the value of pesticides in the Danube water, indicating their excessive use in agriculture. The civic association "Za našu vodu" (For our water) also launched a campaign called "The quality of the water we drink". As part of this campaign, it wants to verify the quality of drinking water throughout Slovakia. It will focus on detecting pesticides in drinking water. It wants to prepare concrete proposals for improving the quality of drinking water.
