The direct economic contribution of travel and tourism worldwide amounted to approximately 2.57 trillion U.S. dollars in 2017. Slovakia is a country where tourism is not the main contributor to the country's GDP. According to an analysis by the World Travel & Tourism Council, with tourism contributing to just over 6% of the country's GDP, it is the eighth lowest share within the EU. Nevertheless, there are ways and plans to change this, such as promoting the country within a so-called niche segment of tourism: congress tourism. Not only the country, but more specifically its capital city, Bratislava. We spoke to Nina Erneker, head of the Bratislava Convention Bureau about their strategy of promoting Bratislava as a Motor City.
