€20 million each earmarked for culture and sports

A total of €20 million is to be earmarked for the support of culture and another €20 million to support sports under the Recovery and Development Fund, Minister for Investments, Regional Development and Informatisation Veronika Remišová (For the People) announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

"At the moment, as part of the Recovery and Development Fund, the EU is also furnishing us with money for the current programming period - about €780 million," said Remišová.

House European Affairs Committee chair Tomáš Valášek (For the People) pointed out that between 30,000-40,000 people are employed in sports and that there's the need to save tens of thousands of jobs. Moreover, up to 66,000 people are employed in culture and creative industries, with an additional 150,000 jobs in related services.

Lawmakers on the House Culture and Media Committee are slated to hold talks on Wednesday with representatives of creative and culture industries on specific measures and how aid could best be delivered to them. The proposal is yet to be discussed with the European Commission, and presented at a session of the Government slated for Wednesday (September 23).
