Contest in reading poetry

On the 24th and 25th of June, 2022, the finale of Hviezdoslavov Kubin, the longest-running poetry-reading contest in this country, was held in the northern Slovak town of Dolny Kubin. For the 68th time, the event hosted competitors from all across Slovakia aged from 7 on up. The two main competing categories involve high school students and adults, reading poetry as well as excerpts from fiction. This year, there were fewer laureates awarded than usual. In order to get to the gist of this Slovak phenomenon, RSI spoke with Richard Vesely, the head of the jury tasked with selecting the winners.
