Slovak National Theatre director general in trouble

Slovak National Theatre general director Matej Drlicka might lose his post. This was decided by the house committee for incompatible duties, with regard to multiple breaches of the law for his delay in submitting a declaration of assets two years in a row. The decision now has to be approved by the Slovak Parliament. Matej Drlicka has issued a public statement declaring that he submitted the declaration to Culture Ministry as he had been instructed to do. After being sent a note to submit the documents to the Parliament, he did so while at the same time paying the fine. Drlicka claims the fault was not intentional; moreover, no objections were raised by either institution. As he stated, he finds it a sensitive matter to be punished in the same way as those who did not submit any declaration of assets despite having been asked to do so. In April 2022, the top management of the Slovak National Theatre decided to make significant redundancies in its opera ensemble. General director Matej Drlicka advocated these steps at the house committee for culture and media.
