Changes in the teaching of history in Slovakia after the launch of the curriculum reform. This was the topic of the report Education Minister Tomáš Drucker presented on Thursday in Strasbourg. Speaking at the 4th annual conference of the Observatory for the Teaching of History in Europe (OHTE) he informed that history is now taught in Slovakia from the first year of primary school through an interdisciplinary approach, combining civics, geography and ethics.
According to Drucker, the purpose of teaching history is to help students develop values of human rights and justice. "Teaching history is not only about the past, but also about building a resilient, democratic future. By fostering critical thinking, empathy and a sense of responsibility, we can reject distortions of facts and embrace truth and progress," the Slovak minister added.
The Strasbourg conference focused on how pandemics, natural disasters and economic crises are reflected in the teaching of history in member states.
