Slovak Radio senior producer Sona Gyarfasova has been collecting the stories of prisoners of two totalitarian regimes in Slovak history: the Nazi-allied Slovak state and the Communist-run Czechoslovakia. She started in 2010 with interviews and reports from the places where they were imprisoned. They went through the worst punishment in the 1950s, survived 40 years of totalitarianism, but never lost hope. As Sona says, we have here people that this country can be proud of and I mean that not only in the context of Czechia and Slovakia but in the broader European and democratic context.
