The Theatre of Pavol Orszagh Hviezdoslav in Bratislava will premiere a play consisting of Hviezdoslav’s Bloody sonnets in English on Friday, 17 January. The thrilling antiwar performance features a translation by John Minahane. The poetic performance features not only English but also Slovak Czech, Polish, Russian, French, Hungarian, Italian and German. The director of the production David Paška has collaborated with significant European theatres in Romania, Poland, Germany and Austria, including the Schauspielhaus in Salzburg or Kasematten Wiener Neustadt. To perform a dialogue of two female characters citing Hviezdoslav’s antiwar poetry, the shooting star director chose Slovak born American actress Katarina Morhacova and Annamaria Janekova, a core member of the Pavol Orszagh Hviezdoslav’s Theatre in Bratislava.
