Even though the Government announced that the smart quarantine app should start on May 18, it is still not in full operation. As of Monday May 25 morning, it had been launched only at three border crossings - two with Austria - Petržalka-Berg and Jarovce-Kitsee and one with the Czech republic - Drietoma-Starý Hrozenkov. On Sunday, the Interior Ministry's spokesperson Barbara Túrosová said that other border crossings should gradually follow.
The application can still be used only on smartphones running on the Android operational system. Google has already approved the app. "It will be possible to download the app to iPhones only after it is approved by Apple," said Túrosová. She stressed that crossing the border is still dependent on a functioning application. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Juraj Šeliga (of the For the People party) apologised to people for the failure to launch a smartphone application enabling home quarantine as an alternative to compulsory quarantine at state facilities on Friday.
"According to statistics available to the permanent crisis management team, the application worked without any significant problems for over 90% of people at the border. We have been thoroughly monitoring and assessing these figures," said Túrosová. Volunteers are helping the police at the borders to address individual technical problems.
Persons who entered the Slovak territory after 8 p.m. on Friday (May 22) and have the smart quarantine application activated can spend a 14-day quarantine at home. "Persons who came to Slovakia after this date and have already been transferred to a state quarantine facility will be allowed to complete the compulsory quarantine at home as soon as they install and activate the app," said Túrosová.
