Only 8.7 percent of positive cases in September were imported

Only 8.7 percent of the 7,084 people who tested positive for coronavirus in Slovakia in September were imported cases, according to an analysis of the Public Health Office. Most of them were imported from Ukraine (163), Czechia (121), Austria (41), Hungary (38), Serbia (27), Poland (23), Croatia (22), Germany (16), Greece (14), Spain (11), Slovenia (9), France (8), UK(7), Turkey, Malta, Israel, Russia and the Netherlands 6 cases each, Sweden (4), Romania, Bulgaria, Mexico and Iran 3 cases each and another 21 countries with two or one cases each.

When it comes to age groups the category 20-24 dominates followed by the 15-19 one. The share of the over 65 group has increased to 11.5 percent in September in comparison to 8.5 percent in August and 5.9 percent in July.

Out of the total number of confirmed cases in September 40 percent did not present any clinical symptoms while 53 percent had respiratory problems and only 5 percent high fever as the main symptom.

Six percent of those who tested positive were hospitalized in September and 56.7 percent of them were older than 65. There were also 25 people younger than 30 who needed to be hospitalized including infants and 32 people in the age category 30 to 45.

The Bratislava region had the highest number of confirmed cases followed by the Zilina region while the Banska Bystrica region has the lowest.
