Pilot phase of mass testing underway

On Friday morning trial mass testing for Covid-19 was launched with a delay and some complications in three districts in the northern Slovak region of Orava and in the Bardejov district in the east. Complications were caused due to a shortage of health-care personnel and certificates to be handed to people together with the result. A total of 180,000 individuals are expected to be tested at 235 sites, with hundreds of soldiers, police officers, firefighters, health and administrative personnel involved in the project.

Dolný Kubín mayor Ján Prílepok harbours concerns over whether there will be enough capacity to test all the people in the town currently waiting in queues to be tested for Covid-19, TASR learnt on Friday. Many inhabitants have chosen Friday as the day to be tested, as strict lockdown restrictions will be imposed on the area as of Saturday (October 24), said Prílepok. The queues began forming practically from the early morning. "[People] learnt that free movement will be severely restricted as of Saturday unless they have a negative test for Covid-19. I suspect that's why so many have chosen Friday to be tested and not any of the other days," explained Prilepok.
