Vaccine to become available for seniors over 85 by end of this week

In some districts, seniors above the age of 85 will be able to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as early as the end of this week, Health Minister Marek Krajčí (OLaNO) declared on Tuesday.

Seniors can sign up for vaccination using a form available on the korona.gov.sk website, although this will be possible only in selected districts.

The minister also specified those groups that should be prioritised in vaccination. If not all of those registered come to be vaccinated on a given day, doses can be given to people aged 65 or older who are being treated in the given hospital, or to those registered for vaccination who suffer from a severe disease that significantly increases the risk posed by COVID-19, regardless of age.

On Monday (January 18), Slovakia launched a vaccination programme against COVID-19 for retirement home residents and their caretakers. As it stood on Tuesday, Slovakia had administered the vaccine to 71,400 people.
