New rules on vaccination of foreigners in force (update)

EU citizens who live in Slovakia, but are insured in another EU member state, can be vaccinated against Covid-19 in Slovakia under the condition that they request an S1 form from the health insurance company in their home country and then register it at any Slovak public health insurance company in Slovakia (Dôvera, VsZp or Union). After registering the form, the Slovak insurance company will issue them a special card. After receiving this card the foreigner can register for vaccination via the online form and get the jab. This stems from new rules published by the Slovak Health Ministry on Wednesday, April 14th.

Foreigners who are registered in the public health insurance system in Slovakia (i.e. are clients of Dôvera, VsZp or Union) may register and get vaccinated with no additional paperwork required.

Foreigners who have only private (commercial) health insurance in Slovakia cannot register for vaccination at the moment.

British nationals who have only the British EHIC card cannot register for vaccination in Slovakia at the moment.

Here is a summary of the current rules, and what documents a foreigner should show at the vaccination center:

An EU citizen who lives in Slovakia but is insured in another EU state (has the S1 form registered) should show the insured person's card with EU designation at the vaccination center.

A foreigner covered by public health insurance in Slovakia should show their Slovak health insurance card.

A foreigner with provided subsidiary protection, or who is a victim of human trafficking registered with the Slovak Ministry of the Interior, should show the VsZP card that has been issued to them.

A foreigner without health insurance in Slovakia, who is a medical student in Slovakia and who performs work in a hospital, should show an employment contract with the hospital and confirmation of study at the university.

For a foreigner without health insurance in Slovakia who is not in any of the above groups, vaccination is not possible in Slovakia.

Vaccination against COVID-19 as a self-payer is not possible in Slovakia at this time.

We will constantly update the information on the vaccination of foreigners in Slovakia.
