On Monday Volkswagen, the largest private employer in Slovakia, partly resumed car production after a break lasting several weeks, company spokeswoman Lucia Kovarovič Makayová confirmed. The Bratislava-based plant relaunched one of the segments producing SUVs according to a single-shift schedule under strict hygiene measures. The firm suspended production on March 17 due to the current coronavirus-related situation. According to Makayová, it is not clear when Volkswagen Slovakia will be able to increase production to pre-crisis levels. In addition to developments regarding the coronavirus pandemic, the supply network and product sales will be particularly important in this respect.
