The steepest rise in unemployment to occur in May

Slovakia must brace itself for a spike in unemployment in the near future, with the labour minister Milan Krajniak (We Are Family) expecting the steepest rise in the number of jobless to occur in May. Krajniak pointed out that jobs were generally saved in March, but the unemployment rate will ratchet up significantly in the April statistics. Job centres also recorded mass lay-offs. "It was about 5,000 people in March and April. In some cases, the mass lay-offs were not instant. The heads of the job centres were instructed to communicate with all employers on an individual basis and seek ways to help them maintain the greatest possible number of jobs," stated Krajniak.
