The carmaker and biggest private employer in the country, Volkswagen Slovakia will extend its production as of next week, resuming a two-shift operation in part of its plant, company spokesperson Lucia Kovarovič Makayová announced. "Volkswagen Slovakia is currently manufacturing all models of its product portfolio in a single-shift operation, while next week one part of its production will switch to a two-shift operation. The production capacity thus continues to gradually grow since the company resumed its production," said the Kovarovič Makayová.
Contrary to the Bratislava plant, two assembly lines of the group's headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany will remain halted with the third one being used only four days a week this month due to low demand. Volkswagen Slovakia suspended its production due to the current coronavirus crisis on March 17. It decided to suspend its also production due to the decline in the car market and risks related to supplying components. The firm introduced strict hygiene measures against the spread of coronavirus after resuming production.
