Help to pay the rent

The state will allocate €200 million to help entrepreneurs who had to close their facilities on the Government's orders due to coronavirus to pay their rent, with Parliament approving a law to that effect by an overwhelming majority on Tuesday. The amount of help is not fixed and represents an estimate based on data that can be obtained from publicly available sources. The application is to be submitted by the landlord on behalf of the tenant, but using his or her own bank account. The amount of rent is thus to be reduced in favor of the tenant by the amount of the discount agreed with the landlord, and at the same time by an amount corresponding to the subsidy credited to the landlord's account, the Ministry of Economy explained. It is proposed that the effective date of the law will be the day of its promulgation.
