Controversial businessman not in custody so far

On Thursday, the Supreme court will decide if controversial businessman Norbert Bödör will be prosecuted in custody. Last week, Bödör was detained along with Peter Kuba as part of the Stock Farmer operation within which bribery in the Agricultural Payment Agency (PPA) amounting to over €10 million is being investigated. Later, a pre-trial judge of the Specialised Criminal Court in Banská Bystrica chose to keep Kuba in custody, however, released Bödör. A prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office demanded that the two men be prosecuted in custody and filed a complaint against the decision to release Bödör.

Norbert Bödör is related by family to former Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar, who stepped down after the mass protests triggered by the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak. According to leaked chat communication, he was allegedly in contact with Marián Kočner, charged of ordering the murder and allegedly helped him with screenings of journalists. Moreover, in 2018, the National Criminal Agency aimed to detain Bödör, who however, learnt about the planned action and came to the police himself.
