Slovak politicians react to German election

It is an important result for stability and security in Europe, said Slovak President Andrej Kiska in reaction to the result of the general election in Germany which took place last weekend. The CDU/CSU party of the current chancellor Angela Merkel won with a vote of earned 33,5%. Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok believes that "Germany will remain a key country in foreign policy, for example trade-wise." Béla Bugár, leader of the Slovak coalition party Most-Híd wrote on social media that the voice of reason had won again, referring to the French presidential elections won by Emanuel Macron, which took place earlier this year. Richard Sulík, leader of the strongest Slovak opposition party Freedom and Solidarity pointed out that Merkel's party had lost 8% compared to the last election, with its worst post-war result. The formation of independent Slovak MPs called SPOLU considers the result of the German general election to be a chance to solve the EU's key problems.
