Record attendance at Nazi oppression remembrance march

The historically highest number of participants, almost 2,200, took place at this year's edition of the "March of Thanks to the Slovak National Uprising" (SNP) between the village of Cigeľ and the town of Handlová, western Slovakia, last weekend. "We remember and do not forget the unlucky January 13th, 1945, when the German commando occupied our village and the cruel investigation, beating and persecution began," said Štefan Mjartan, mayor of Cigeľ, in his speech. He also pointed out the need to highlight these events to the young generation.
