Minister Lajcak meets new Indian Ambassador

Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák met the Indian Ambassador to Slovakia, Shri Vanlalhuma, who presented him with his letter of credence. Both Lajčák and Vanlalhuma concurred that bilateral ties were friendly and discussed the prospects for making them even closer. The high level of political dialogue was also confirmed by last year's visit by Indian Foreign Affairs Minister Mobashar Jawed Akbar to Slovakia. "I appreciate the results of the tenth session by the Mixed Commission for Economic and Trade Co-operation, which ended as recently as yesterday in New Delhi," claimed Slovak Foreign Minister. Lajcak and Vanlalhuma agreed that the launch of operations by Jaguar Land Rover, owned by the Indian-based Tata Group conglomerate, in Nitra sends a positive signal for the further development of mutual economic ties. Co-operation is switching into a higher gear particularly in the defence industry, since India liberalised its arms production in 2017 to allow participation from the private sector. The Indian ambassador also confirmed New Delhi's interest in co-operation in the pharmaceutical industry, IT, space exploration and railways.
