Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini gave a speech at the European Parliament on Monday assuring that there is no alternative for Slovakia but to be a member of the European Union. In Strassbourg, he reiterated that our country believes in the common European project and wants to be in its core. According to Pellegrini, as the European Union was established 60 years ago to secure a better future, Slovaks expressed their wish 30 years ago when they set off on a journey of democratic changes. As he added, Slovakia's entry into the EU 15 years ago secured the country's stability and freedom. The prime minister also spoke about the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fianceé Martina Kušnírová. "The reaction of the public was the sign of a matured Slovak democracy," said the prime minister. At the same time, he thanked the European Anti-Fraud Office OLAF for its co-operation in the murder's investigation. On that note, Spanish MEP Esteban Gonzáles Pons from the European People's Party taxed the Slovak Prime Minister with not taking proper responsibility.
