Visits to Slovakia grew by 4.1 percent in 2018

The number of visits to Slovakia in 2018 increased by 4.1 percent, with the overall number of visitors reaching 5.6 million. Out of these, 3.3 million were domestic tourists, the head of the Slovak Tourism Offices and Agencies Association (SACKA) Roman Berkes announced on Wednesday. The top destinations last year were Bratislava, Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš, Žilina and Košice. The total number of overnight stays was 15.5 million, which represents a 3.9-percent increase. While Czech tourists stay the longest in Slovakia, as the average duration of their stays is four days, one-day visitors from the USA and Australia often travel to Bratislava on the Danube River. German tourists prefer the capital, the High Tatra Mountains and the Spiš region in the east.
