Tenders for the purchase of military technology must fulfil strict transparency criteria, President Zuzana Čaputová stated on Tuesday after a meeting with Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš (SNS). This because they concern public resources, and people should not have doubts as to whether the resources are spent on a cost-effective basis. She added that she has legitimate questions about purchases based on up-to-date knowledge, and stated that she is gathering more information on this and will address the matter at a future meeting. She stressed at the meeting that all planned purchases should be consistent with Slovakia's obligations towards NATO. Gajdoš stated that all purchases are carried out in line with a long-term plan and have to be okayed by the Government. "If new projects emerge and the President's Office has any questions about them, I'm ready to provide information to the president at any time," he said.
