Members of the Association of Retailers of the Slovak Republic refuse the implementation of the PET bottles and cans deposit scheme. The Slovak Parliament should discuss the adoption of the EU directive in September. According to Martin Katriak, the President of the Association, the current system of separation should be improved and not a new one implemented. Retailers are also warning of the high costs needed for implementing the €0,10 deposit per container. In 2018, Environment Ministry analysts estimated that the implementation of the new system should amount to € 80 million. Retailers claim it would be more than € 100 million. According to the Environment Ministry, the implementation of the deposit scheme does not stop separation. "Experience from abroad shows its positive influence on separating plastic bottles," said Zuzana Onufer from the Ministry's press office.
