Slovakia at NATO summit on fulfilling commitments in defence

"Constructive and open", is how the Slovak president Zuzana Čaputová described the summit of NATO leaders in the United Kingdom. According to her, unity was noticeable in perceiving the importance, objectives and challenges of the North Atlantic Alliance. Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš also confirmed the importance of the unity of NATO member states. According to him, the sharing of defence costs of two percent of GDP is a "clear commitment" for Slovakia that the country will achieve in 2024, as declared by the Slovak Government. "I believe that the Slovak Government, step by step, can secure our obligations, which were previously somehow not undervalued, but partially due to Slovakia's economic capacity put into the background," he said. Slovakia currently achieves defence spending of 1.72 percent of GDP. While in the UK, both the Slovak President and Defence Minister attended a memorial ceremony at the Brookwood Military Cemetery, paying tribute to Slovak and Czech British Royal Air Force (RAF) officers who died during World War II.
