Mutual Assistance Fund brings mixed reactions

The coalition has agreed to set up a Mutual Assistance Fund that will be dedicated to individual people whose lives have been affected by novel coronavirus. Coalition MPs, ministers and other people working with the Government will contribute to the fund, however, their contribution will be voluntary. Prime Minister Igor Matovič (OĽaNO), who presented the idea of the fund on Wednesday, stated that he himself would hand over his whole salary. Parliamentary Vice-chair Juraj Šeliga (For the People) welcomes the creation of the fund and emphasised that if lawmakers can go an extra mile to help people, no good reason exists not to do that. "Marketing issue that won't solve anything", is what the parliamentary Vice-chair and former PM Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) thinks of the fund, and asks the new government to deal with real problems related to the new coronavirus pandemic. The far-right Peoples' Party our Slovakia will not join the proposal either.
