President and PM see capable candidates for Prosecutor General

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová believes that there are capable people in the ranks of the prosecution service who could hold the position of Prosecutor General. "They are capable not only professionally, but also with regard to their personality," said Čaputová. "All the names are excellent. There are all honest people," said Prime Minister Igor Matovič commenting on the candidates. On Sunday, May 3, information appeared that one of the candidates for the position of prosecutor general is Daniel Lipšic - a lawyer, former Deputy Prime Minister, former Justice Minister and former Interior Minister. If the governing coalition agreed with his nomination, the law would have to be changed. "As for considerations of changing the law in connection with one of the concrete names, I would first talk to the prime minister about this topic," the president explained.

The term of the current Prosecutor-General Jaromír Čižnar, elected in parliament seven years ago by the votes of the-then single governing party Smer-SD, is due to expire in the summer.
