New Iranian Ambassador to Slovakia appointed, bilateral relations discussed

Foreign Affairs Ministry State Secretary Ingrid Brocková on Tuesday received the credentials of the new Iranian Ambassador to Slovakia, Abbas Bagherpour Ardekaniho who is based in Vienna. The two sides appraised the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasising economic cooperation. "We, along with the Economy Ministries of our respective countries, will make efforts to organise a session of a Joint Slovak-Iranian Economic Committee, which will help to reflect on current topics of bilateral economic relations and to intensify trade between the countries," stated Brockova.

The state secretary at the same time stressed the need to comply with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, despite the existing sanctions against Iran. The Plan, according to the Slovak ministry, is a key element of regional as well as global security. Brockova expressed her belief that Iran will continue to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
