Cigarette prices are expected to rise by an average of 40 cents per pack from February of next year. In February 2023 cigarette prices should go up by another 20 cents, according to a draft amendment to the Act on Excise Duty on Tobacco Products, which the Finance Ministry has submitted for interdepartmental review. The amendment to the law is intended not only to increase the cost of cigarettes, but also that of tobacco. Selling existing cigarette supplies for the current price will be allowed for two months, tobacco for six months.
The amendment to the law is expected to increase the state's tax revenues by 103.7 million euros next year, 140.9 million euros in 2022 and 195.1 million euros in 2023.
