Christian Democrats elected new chair

The extra-parliamentary Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) elected Prešov region governor Milan Majerský as the party's chairman on Saturday. Moreover, Marián Čaučík, Igor Janckulík and Tomáš Merašický were elected as the vice-chairs. Meanwhile, former chair Alojz Hlina did not receive enough support with his bid to become the party's vice-chair. Hlina resigned as chairman after the party failed to make it into Parliament in February for the second consecutive time. "KDH is a democratic party and the result of the election must be respected," said Hlina without answering a question whether he will stay in the party.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Igor Matovič (Ordinary People) and chair of the junior governing party For the People Veronika Remišová congratulated Majerský on being elected KDH chairman and expressed their support for him.

"I believe that Milan Majerský will be the right choice for KDH in these uneasy times," stated Matovič on Facebook, while Remišová also went on to discuss possible cooperation. "I know Milan Majerský as a decent person and a man of values, and I have no doubt that we'll cooperate in moving Slovakia significantly forward," said Remišová.
